After everyone arrived at the beginning of this week`s camp on Sunday afternoon, we all gathered at the Pignada so we could all get to know one another while skateboarding and playing tennis.

We played a fast-paced ball game with all the campers, friends and helpers to get to know one another´s names before going to bed to get ready for an early morning of surf!

Monday was gorgeous and sunny all day.We spent a wonderful full day at the beach surfing in the morning and the evening when it was low tide. In between, we all played beach volleyball and went swimming.

The cheeky lifeguards really look after us at Ocean Beach!

Some of us snacked on gauffres covered in Nutella and whipped cream. Mari, Helmi and Aino – we are jealous!

The two groups, the Sharks and the Dolphins, took turns to stretch and do yoga with Helmi, Mari and Susanna and have a fun `Surf Terminology´ English lesson with Aino and Ashlee.

Getting to know the English words for different muscles and body parts.

Yoga and stretching are extremely important for balance as a surfer and to help keep you flexible. they are beneficial both before and after a surf!

Cool ones!

Let´s learn some words and sentences in English that relate to surfing!

Tuesday was extremely hot and we swam to keep cool. Between surf lessons with Surf Instructor Pierrik and time in the shade, we spent time looking at Surf Passports and translating what everyone could already achieve and what they hoped to achieve by the end of the camp.

Our English lesson today was translating what we have already achieved in surfing and what we hope to achieve by the end of the camp.

Lunch time at the English and Surf cabin!

And so the week has begun! Let´s get our English and Surf on! Aloha :)

Early surfing session in the morning sun.

Ready to paddle out again and hit the waves!

The siblings enjoying the warm morning sun!

During this English lesson the children learned to describe the dangers of surfing.

During the week we asked the kids to fill in a pre surf evaluation form where they evaluated their own skills regarding surfing and the equipment.

Tired boys after a heavy surf session!

A quick look at the answers in the pre-surf evaluations of the children showed that many of the kids claimed to be real experts in surfing and handling surf equipment! For this reason we wanted to test the kids and so we asked them to show how to measure a piece of rope for a leash loop, how to tie a leash loop and how to attach it to a leash plug.

Pierre-Alain showing us how to tie a leash loop.

To our positive surprise, the majority of the kids managed to work out our little test, good job!

In the end of the day, Patrick arranged a baseball match and we welcomed our German friends, Nicolas and Julius, to join us.

Jeremie hitting the ball!

In the evening we drove to the beach close to Sable D'Or, in Biarritz, to enjoy the last waves of the day in beautiful sunset.

Paul-Emile and Richard chilling and watching the others surf. The sky was amazing!

Our German surfer friends Nicolas and Julius!

Boys, boys, boys - you should go surfing! No time for sleep :)

Exhausted Benjamin after surfing the big waves.

On Friday night, we ate dinner outside. After dinner we gathered in the class room to go through the English & Surf blog together, eat ice cream and write warm fuzzies of everyone.

Thank you for a great week! :)

  1. It was really hard but really great, the hardest part is literally getting into the standing position and balancing, but once you balance moving through the water is terrific. I hope you have an awesome experience.
